Sunday Times crowns Stockport best place to live in northwest
We’re delighted to share the news that the Sunday Times has crowned Stockport the best place to live in the northwest. We are super proud (although we knew it already, of course!).
The Sunday Times guide explores cities, towns and villages the length and breadth of the country to select annual recommendations.
The Sunday Times is full of praise for Stockport’s “cool independent shops as well as affordable houses and unbeatable rail connections”. The guide also notes Stockport’s proximity to the countryside of the Pennines and the Peaks, the new public park and bus station and the development of Weir Mill in to a neighbourhood of flats, restaurants, bars, squares and green spaces next to the historic viaduct. Along with the earmarking of the site of the former Debenhams building for a new hospital, this adds to:
“A mighty metamorphosis has begun in SK1, promising to turn it into one of the most exciting towns around.”

The Sunday Times’s accolade follows hot on the heels of Stockport’s year as Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture, with SGS’s Director of Drama Matt King-Sayce invited to join Stockport Council’s funding panel.
