Teeing off for the Bursary Fund

Littlewoods Butchers - the winners of the 2023 Bursary Golf Day

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Stockport Grammar School’s Bursary Golf Day, in association with Vernon Building Society, was blessed with stunning blue skies, warm weather and a course in fantastic condition.

Eighteen teams took to the greens at Stockport Golf Club on Thursday 15th June for the annual fundraising event. Congratulations to the Littlewoods Butchers team who came first with 96 points and to team captain John Littlewood who won the nearest the pin competition at the 16th.

In a close second place were the Davies Harrison team on 94 points, RBC Brewin Dolphin taking third on 90 points and Edwards & Co in fourth with 87 points. Congratulations also to Ciaran Sterritt for hitting the longest drive on the 10th.

The event has raised over £9,800 for the Bursary Fund which supports children from less affluent backgrounds to benefit from the excellent education opportunities on offer at SGS with means-tested financial assistance with fees.

About the Bursary Fund

Stockport Grammar School was founded, in 1487, by philanthropy. Sir Edmond Shaa, determined to ‘give back’ to his home town and improve the lives of children, founded Stockport Grammar School to nurture intellect, foster character, and provide opportunity. The regular support of so many alumni, parents and friends has been essential to providing our means-tested bursaries at 11+ and 16+.

Unfortunately, we continue to disappoint many children due to insufficient funds. In 2022, we received 150 applications for only thirteen 11+ bursary places. Stockport has some of the highest levels of poverty in the country, highlighting why our focus on providing as many transformational 100% bursaries as we can is essential.

If you would like to make a gift to the Bursary Fund and help us do more to help local children who will excel at Stockport Grammar School, please visit https://community.stockportgrammar.co.uk/supportus or contact Head of Development Aria Johnston to find out more.
