Winter Concert wows audience

SGS musicians take part in the 2022 Winter Concert

Students showcased their musical prowess and wowed with classical renditions at this year’s Winter Concert.

The evening was kicked off by an amazing rendition of ‘Windquest’ by our fabulous Concert Band. They took the audience on a trip to the Wild West with ‘Hoedown Hayride’ and brought the swing with a rendition of Elvis’ ‘Blue Suede Shoes’.

Oboe Trio kept the popular tunes coming with ‘Moon River’, which was popularised in the 1961 Audrey Hepburn film, ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’.

Keeping with the film theme, Junior Woodwind Group performed ‘Bare Necessities’ and they also played ‘Drunken Sailor’, which helped to keep the audience’s spirits high.

The Junior Woodwind performance was an excellent opportunity for pupils who have just started learning their instruments to demonstrate their new skills.

Our Junior Chamber Choir performed a lovely rendition of traditional Caribbean song ‘Halle Halle Halle’ and South African melody ‘Amen Siakudumisa’.

After some refreshments, Cello Choir kicked things back off with Queen’s ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ and Guitar Ensemble performed ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’.

Wind Orchestra played ‘Triumphal March’ and ‘Crown Imperial’ and the audience loved ‘Highlights from the Pink Panther’.

Director of Music Mr Michael Dow said: “Many congratulations to all of the pupils involved in the Winter Concert.

“It was a wonderful evening with a great variety of ensembles taking part and excellent performances from start to finish.

“A thoroughly enjoyable first concert of the calendar year.”
