Year 6 pupils shine in swashbuckling show on the high seas

The cast of the 2024 Year 6 Show

Year 6 pupils had the time of their life putting on this year’s show, ‘Pirates Of The Curry Bean’.

The piratical musical saw pupils set sail for a swashbuckling pirate adventure on the high seas – and they took the enthralled audience along for the ride!

The story followed young twins Jack and Liza Periwinkle who discovered a real-life treasure map. However, the infamous Redbeard and his pungent Pirates of the Curry Bean steal the map and kidnap their mother. From then, the race is on to rescue her, reclaim the map and find the treasure!

Accompanied by their faithful cat Fiddlesticks, the twins join a mad admiral and his crazy crew on a voyage of adventure that takes them from Old London Docks to the mysterious island of Lumbago in the sea of Sciatica!

Pupils enjoyed getting into character as they took their place in the cast. Some were members of the Periwinkle Family, others were townspeople and natives of Lumbago, and three were the Health and Safety Inspectors – Mr Wally, Mr Pratt and Mr Nuisance!

The crews of the Curry Bean Ship and the Crunchy Frog were wonderfully depicted by the eager young actors and the Pirate, Rat and Monkey Choruses certainly sounded the part!

Pupil Zoe O said: “The show was such great fun because I got to spend time with the whole group on the stage and also backstage.”

Mrs Alison Sullivan stepped in at the last minute to work with the children to deliver the performances and she was full of praise for the boys and girls. She said: “The Year 6 children were amazing! They were really enthusiastic about putting on a great show and they certainly did that!

“I was blown away by their effort and desire and they did themselves, their families and the Junior School proud! Bravo everyone!”

A big thank you also to Dance Teacher Mrs Abigail Downing for all of her work directing the choreography.
