Year Six pupils thrilled to take up positions of responsibility


Junior School Prefects with Headmaster

Stockport Grammar Junior School is committed to developing the skills of citizenship, personal responsibility and care for one another. As part of this commitment, Year Six pupils were invited to apply for positions of responsibility. Below is the list for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Head Boy and Head Girl

The positions of Head Boy and Head Girl change each term, meaning that up to three Head Boys and three Head Girls are selected over the course of the academic year.

For the Autumn term, the Head Boy is William L and Eva M is the Head Girl.

The roles of Head Boy and Head Girl are given to children who have shown consistent dedication to school life throughout their time at Stockport Grammar Junior School.

House Captains

Two pupils from each of the school’s four Houses are chosen to be a House Captain on a termly basis.

The House Captains for the Autumn term are:

  • Arden: Evie L and Aaban A
  • Nicholson: Hannah A and Katy P
  • Warren: Connie G and Ollie D
  • Vernon: Amelia B and Thomas M

Responsibilities for House Captains include assisting staff in the lining up process, collating, sorting and delivering lost property and involvement in House events.

Prefects

All pupils that enter Year Six have the opportunity to become a Prefect. After being told about the roles and responsibilities, the interested children were invited to submit an application.

The list of Prefects for the 2022-2023 academic year are: Jake S, Connor W, Camille D, Fatima A, Christina W, Elliott I, Eleanor H, Sophia H, Alia I, Esther G, Rose F, Ryan M, Aayan R, Casper A, Zaina U, Vaani P, Ava O, Zain T, Pansy W, Louis W, Callum G, Harry B, Percy G, Orla A and Atyab S.

Other leadership positions

There are a number of other positions of responsibility including Sports Captains, the Leader of Orchestra and Charity Reps.

Sports Captains will set a consistently good example to peers, teammates and other schools and assist staff as necessary with set-up, pre-match and post-match arrangements. This year’s Sports Captains are Erin (Hockey), Ellie R (Netball), Leo G (Rugby), Stanley C (Football) and Heidi J and Billy B (Swimming).

The Leader of the Orchestra is selected by the Music Co-ordinator and the selection is based on musical ability, reliability and leadership. This year’s Leader of the Orchestra will be announced in due course.

SGJS hold a number of charity initiatives to raise funds for a range of amazing charities. Under the leadership of the Charity Co-ordinator Mrs Lisa Turner, the Charity Reps play an integral part in getting the whole Junior School community involved. This year’s Charity Reps are Maeve S and Emily K.

Mr Matthew Copping, Junior School Headmaster, said: “Huge congratulations to all of the pupils who secured a position of responsibility. We are looking forward to working with them and giving them all of the support they need in these exciting roles.

“By taking up these positions, the children promote a common ethos with shared values, develop a selfless approach and sense of community spirit and it allows them to encounter and deal with compromise.”
