Children joining our Pre-Reception become part of the Junior School and they benefit from all that is on offer, from the wide range of facilities to the extensive school grounds.
We provide children with a high quality of care and education and, as they play and learn in a happy and stimulating environment, they enjoy positive experiences to build their confidence and self-esteem.
The children’s education is overseen by our experienced and well-qualified team. There are, in addition, specialist Music and Modern Foreign Languages lessons, regular sessions in the Junior library, Dance and PE in the school hall and weekly swimming lessons in the school pool, again taken by specialist teachers. We also have two school nurses who oversee medical care.
Children are eligible to join the Pre-Reception at the start of the term in which they turn three, subject to meeting our entry requirements.
Working with parents
Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care and education for your child and a strong and purposeful partnership between staff and parents is essential.
We will encourage a close liaison between you and staff as this is central to creating a happy and secure environment. You will have many opportunities to be involved in Pre-Reception activities.
Every effort is made to ensure that you are kept fully informed about the day to day running of the Pre-Reception and our qualified staff ensure that we provide continuity of care for each child.
The Pre-Reception is in a self-contained unit on the Junior School site. It is very well-resourced and has a designated outdoor play area. In addition, as part of the school, the Pre-Reception children also have use of all the other facilities which are available, including the Junior School Hall, the Library, the ICT suite, the playgrounds and playing fields and the swimming pool.
The Pre-Reception follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
Through carefully guided play activities the children are encouraged to explore, experience, discover, practise skills and develop ideas. They are helped to develop physically and emotionally and to interact socially.
Pre-Reception children are integrated into the life of the school and, when the time comes for the children in our Pre-Reception to make the smooth transition to our Reception classes, we know that they are ready to learn.
The Pre-Reception staff, led by our full-time teacher, are fully qualified, experienced and dedicated to giving your child the best possible start in life.
The foundation stage coordinator oversees the Pre-Reception and reception classes.
