Nursery Curriculum

Children joining our Nursery become part of the Junior School and they benefit from all that is on offer, from the wide range of facilities to the extensive school grounds.

We provide children with a high quality of care and education and, as they play and learn in a happy and stimulating environment, they enjoy positive experiences to build their confidence and self-esteem.

The children’s education is overseen by our experienced and well-qualified team. There are, in addition, specialist Music and Modern Foreign Languages lessons, regular sessions in the Junior library, Dance and PE in the school hall and weekly swimming lessons in the school pool, again taken by specialist teachers. We also have two school nurses who oversee medical care.

Children may join our Nursery class in the September after their third birthday, following assessment to ensure that they are ready. If places are available, they may be able to join in the term after their third birthday (January or April).

Working with parents

Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care and education for your child and a strong and purposeful partnership between staff and parents is essential.

We will encourage a close liaison between you and staff as this is central to creating a happy and secure environment. You will have many opportunities to be involved in Nursery activities.

Every effort is made to ensure that you are kept fully informed about the day to day running of the Nursery and our qualified staff ensure that we provide continuity of care for each child.

Facilities

The Nursery is in a self-contained unit on the Junior School site. It is very well-resourced and has a designated outdoor play area. In addition, as part of the school, the Nursery children also have use of all the other facilities which are available, including the Junior School Hall, the Library, the ICT suite, the playgrounds and playing fields and the swimming pool.

Curriculum

The Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

Through carefully guided play activities the children are encouraged to explore, experience, discover, practise skills and develop ideas. They are helped to develop physically and emotionally and to interact socially.

Nursery children are integrated into the life of the school and, when the time comes for the children in our Nursery to make the smooth transition to our Reception classes, we know that they are ready to learn.
