Winter Concert kicks off calendar year in style

The Boys Vocal Group performing at the 2023 Winter Concert

The audience in a packed-out Dining Hall enjoyed a variety of performances as the Music department kicked off their Spring Term programme with the Winter Concert.

The evening began with Concert Band performing Vinson’s arrangement of Warlock’s ‘Two Dances From Capriol Suite’ and ‘Doctor Rock’ by Frank.

The Junior Strings were next up with ‘Yoska’ by Biddulph before the Brass Quartet delivered an accomplished rendition Kabelevsky’s ‘Comedians Galop’.

The Junior Woodwind performances of ‘In the Mood’ by Manone, Razaf and Garland and Elton John’s ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ gave pupils who have just started learning their instruments the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills.

Junior Percussion delighted the audience with a rousing performance of Landon’s ‘Stickity Clickety’ before the evening was brought to a close by VOX and Boys Vocal Group’s versions of ‘My Shot’ by Manuel Miranda and Bastille’s breakout hit ‘Pompeii’.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable first concert of the calendar year and the musicians now look ahead to the Spring Concert on 8th March at St Georges Church and Dido and Aeneas on 23rd and 24th March in the Hallam Hall.
