Catalogue showcases wonderful work of artists

Artwork from the 2020 Art Catalogue

In response to the coronavirus pandemic cancelling the annual Art and Design Exhibition, the department wanted to ensure that the effort, determination, application and skill demonstrated by our GCSE and A-level students was recognised. They have done this by collating many of the fantastic pieces of artwork into an excellent catalogue.

Whilst not replacing the excitement experienced in the days leading up to the Exhibition, the catalogue offers something tangible that students can have to look back on in years to come.

Headmaster Dr Paul Owen said: “I am delighted that the Art Department has produced this excellent catalogue to showcase the wonderful work that our talented artists have produced this year. Coronavirus restrictions mean that we cannot view the real work but these representations do give us real insight into the vision, ideas and technical skills of our pupils.”

Head of Art, Design and Technology Mr Richard Davies and teacher Mrs Becci Upton added: “The belief that pupils should have the opportunity to develop ideas and explore media and techniques freely is central to what the Art Department sets out to do.”

Mr Chris Dunn, Chairman of Governors, concluded: “Whilst it is not possible to hold the Exhibition, this brochure makes it possible for a wide audience to view and admire the accomplished art work of the pupils of the School – the very high standard of which reflects great credit on the students and staff of the Art Department.”
